In 2009, The Downtown Development Authority of Swainsboro (DDA) took ownership of a large vacant building in downtown Swainsboro with the intentions of opening the area’s largest arts, antiques, and crafts market. That Fall, the DDA began renovations to the property, located at 215 West Main Street. As the Summer of 2010 neared, the group found itself nearing the completion of the building, which received a newly repaired roof and new electrical, plumbing, and heating and cooling systems. In addition, an office, storage closets, and restrooms were added to the property.
Opening in the spring of 2011 the Main Street Market at the Boneyard serves several purposes. While a portion of the building is dedicated to serving as merchant booths for various arts, crafts, gifts, and antiques vendors, a second portion serves as a general-use community space housing the Live Oak Arts Gallery and hosting various events including live music, art strolls, auctions, and more. The space is available for rent to community groups and organizations for use as a meeting and event space.
